Helping European Railways Transition to the Digital Future through Cooperation

This event, facilitated by HIT Rail, took place at the European Parliament, Brussels Date: 6th December 2011. It was hosted by Brian Simpson, MEP Chairman of the European Parliament Transport and Tourism Committee.

This European Railway Conference became a unique occasion for gathering and diffusing the strategic issues that concern the European railways’ transition to the digital future, in the parliamentary settings of the European Union. Its focus was on enhancing the interoperability of cross-border railway business applications in passenger, freight and infrastructure.

The positions of policy makers, several major international railway organisations and various actors in the field were presented by their senior representatives. Major developments to date, the challenges ahead and the critical issues to be solved were discussed. Measures and good practices needed for advancing interoperability, inter-modality, competitive markets and sustainable transport in the application areas were put forward.

In addition, Hit Rail’s business strategy 2011-2016 to support these goals was shared as an input during the conference.
